mobile design, UI / UX, branding, animation, character design, illustration, brand narrative

Squiz! is mobile app, addressed to relatively young audience, where users can play with each other in quiz rounds, in real-time.

The host of the app is mascot Smokzi – dragon, who wants to satisfy his constant thirst for knowledge.

Extensive and quite complex structure, multiple and frequent user interactions with each other and with the app itself or many overlapping elements required designing many user stories and screens.

Everything… and more

Initially the scope of the project was pretty standard: logic and structure of the application, UI / UX design, logo, icon and animations. But if You have awesome idea, why keep it to Yourself?

It ended with proposing: use of a mascot, juice splashing motive with a narrative involving mascot, a currency used in the app (ambrosia). All of it was accepted, designed and / or executed.

Friendly face

Mascot appears in many places, being the face of the app and eliminates the problem of impersonal interface.

It also drops a small emotional anchor, by triggering emotions already in first moments of opening installed app, and / or viewing its App Store / Google Play store.

Following the color

App is based on categories, under which users can play duels. Every category have its own icon and leading color, which is the background of icon’s tile, and becomes background of the app, from the moment of category entrance to duel’s end.

Both the opponent and the category can be selected manually or drawn. If your friends are busy, there is always someone on the map willing to play.

Time flies like crazy

Every duel has 7 rounds, with 10 seconds per round. In addition to digits, passing time is showed with the disappearance of background’s color. All this colourfulness quenches the thirst of our dragon.

The math behind it

Basic points for the game determines the winnings, but levels’ and ranks’ points can be much higher if You buy multiplier and / or visit the app every day. There are also bonus points for completing and / or winning the duel.

What’s my name?

Every user has their own public profile. It allows you to challenge someone to a duel, chat and follow. It also contains user’s statistics and the history of Your duels.

There are ranks within every category but there is also a global rank. You can scroll through all app users or people You follow.
